Our annual Research Forum enables UWA postgraduate education students from UWA and other universities to present their research and explore their ideas in a supportive environment – a great opportunity for the sharing of minds in education related research.
The Foundation supports teaching prizes and an education forum at the University of Western Australia to recognise excellence in teaching students and support and assist them to disseminate their knowledge and impart their enthusiasm for learning.
Postgraduate Research Forum
The Fogarty Foundation Postgraduate Research Forum is an annual event supported by the Fogarty Foundation and hosted by The Graduate School of Education at UWA. The Forum provides Higher Degree by Research Students an opportunity to showcase their education-related research and receive valuable feedback from the education research community in Western Australia.
At the 2016 Forum, a record number of 19 research topics by HDR students from UWA, ECU and Murdoch University were presented to a 70 strong crowd. Research topics included those set in Chile, Serbia, Central Java and here in WA while some of the issues explored in the presentations related to empathy in the classroom, working with students with challenging behaviours, international teaching and play based learning as pedagogical practices.
At the helm of the Forum are the HDR students who volunteer their time to help organise the event and ensure its success. This year, 5 students from UWA and Murdoch University formed the student committee and played an integral role in making it a success.
Prizes awarded through the UWA Success through Educational Excellence Program recognise excellence in pre-service and post graduate teaching students. In 2016, the Fogarty Foundation awarded prizes in the following areas:
