Scholarships for the Graduate Certificate of Education (Learning Difficulties) and Master of Education and Prizes
In partnership with Edith Cowan University
The Fogarty Foundation in conjunction with ECU again offered a number of full and half scholarships for qualified teachers to undertake a Graduate Certificate of Education, specialising in Learning Difficulties or to complete the Masters of Education course specialising in Learning Difficulties.
During 2009, the Fogarty Foundation has supported a large number of outstanding classroom teachers to participate in postgraduate study that has resulted in benefits to them in their professional contexts, other teachers with whom they work and, most importantly, there have been demonstrated benefits to many children who have a variety of individual learning needs.
These courses are designed to address the need for classroom teachers, specialist teachers and educational leaders to upgrade their skills and qualifications to meet the needs of students who find literacy and numeracy difficult and to monitor their progress.
Scholarship recipients come from diverse backgrounds and experiences ranging from teachers in rural and remote schools to teachers working in special education contexts.
The Fogarty Foundation, ECU and scholarship recipients all contributed to the Fogarty Foundation’s objective of reducing the gap between high and low achieving students. Many scholars have gone on to take up leadership roles within schools or at district level and reciprocate back to the program by featuring as guest speakers in the undergraduate programs, assist with the running of the mathematics coaching clinics or take up positions as research assistants in the Fogarty Learning Centre.
Now in its eighth year, six scholarships were awarded for the Certificate of Education and four scholarships for the Master of Education in 2009 bringing the total to 102.
As in previous years, two Fogarty Foundation prizes were awarded to students enrolled in the Graduate Certificate of Education and the Master of Education.
