Fremantle Press

Although just recently completed, the Foundation’s involvement in this project was closely allied to its commitment to improve literacy skills to impact on education, employment and societal opportunities.

The Fogarty Foundation in partnership with the Fremantle Press has provided culturally appropriate learning materials to remote Aboriginal communities. Comprising of a series of six books, new and emerging Aboriginal authors have provided published stories to children with the least literacy access.

The six chapter books were written by indigenous authors ranging in age from 15 to 82 years and represent some six Aboriginal communities in Western Australia.

Eight remote Aboriginal communities were specifically targeted with 1,140 books being distributed.

Thank you for the donation of the Waard series of book.  Access to these books is so important as we encourage a culture of literacy and we are very grateful for your support.” Principal, Yakanarra Community School.
