Teach for Australia
Teach For Australia
Teach For Australia is an innovative, not-for-profit organisation working to confront educational disadvantage in Australia. It achieves this by transforming outstanding graduates into inspirational teachers and leaders.
Funding from the Fogarty Foundation is enabling Teach For Australia to conduct a feasibility study in how to effectively establish their operations in Western Australia. The Foundation felt that transforming outstanding graduates into exceptional teachers and inspirational leaders was complementary to the direction and pathway of the Foundation.
Teach For Australia recruits, trains and supports bright, well rounded graduates to teach for two years in disadvantaged secondary schools. In addition, the Fogarty Foundation has been cognisant of the need to boost student learning in disadvantaged, regional and remote communities and to raise the status of the teaching profession.
While the program has been successfully implemented in Victoria, the different structured education system in Western Australia requires a customised approach for the delivery model to metropolitan, regional and remote high schools. Through the support of the Foundation it is hoped to see the program operating in Western Australia in 2012.
