The Dreamfit Foundation
The Dreamfit Foundation is a unique Western Australian organisation dedicated to helping people with disability through innovative engineering solutions to improve their lifestyles.
In addition, they are committed to advancing engineering excellence and education through the professional development opportunities for young UWA engineering students.
Funding provided by the Fogarty Foundation has enabled the Dreamfit Foundation to undertake a feasibility study and development of a business plan. A draft feasibility study has now been completed.
The Dreamfit Foundation was at a juncture in their rapid growth and expansion where they needed to develop a new structure to incorporate an engineering professional development program.
The new structure will afford the opportunity to develop research, planning and management, budgeting, team building and communications skills in young UWA student engineers as part of their curriculum.
Young engineers will have the opportunity to convert their theoretical knowledge into ‘hands-on’ engineering projects for people with a disability as well as providing the students with professional development opportunities. Older students and engineering experts from the corporate sector will mentor the students in their projects.
The project aligns well with the Fogarty Foundation’s directions to encourage endeavours in excellence through leadership and education in young people.
