The Fogarty Foundation Youth Leadership Program
In partnership with the Local Drug Action Groups (LDAGS)
The partnership with LDAGS was established in 2000 and is the Foundation’s longest running partner. Each year, the Fogarty Foundation Youth Leadership Program (FFYLP) is delivered to numerous locations. In 2009-10 FFYLP was delivered to groups of youth from throughout both regional and metropolitan areas of WA through seven leadership workshops.
The workshops were hosted in the areas and communities: of Boyup Brook, Exmouth, Paraburdoo, Melville, South Perth, Mullewa and Geraldton Senior College. Each of the workshops was attended by motivated and proactive youth who progressed to deliver and participate in a range of excellent community initiatives.
The community projects have included a Youth Zone at the City of Perth Skyworks 2010, a mocktail refreshments stand and a drug and alcohol quiz and information session. The projects have all strongly promoted the key message of not requiring alcohol and other drugs to have a good time. Many more projects are in the planning process and set to be implemented in the second half of 2010.
The SWITCHUP Youth Forum was hosted in March 2010 and was attended by FFYLP graduates from the last three years. The weekend was extremely successful and built on the existing skills of the graduates, as well providing them with further opportunities to develop resilience skills, confidence and network with like-minded peers from throughout WA.
In late 2009, the Fogarty Foundation provided support through Social Ventures Australia for a strategic planning workshop with management and board members of LDAGS.
