Sports Challenge Australia Builds Physical and Mental Health Skills in Metro and Country WA

The Fogarty Foundation is delighted to be partnering Sports Challenge Australia with ‘world first’ programs to be delivered into the needy Communities of Koongamia (Metro East) and Port Hedland (North West).

The project will use an experiential mentoring approach delivered by passionate, trained and young Sports Challenge Mentors to build the physical and mental health of children in the local schools over a sustained timeline. This highly successful approach delivered over the past 25 years will improve the life skills of the children, improve their physical activity, their resilience and more importantly reengagement with education, their families, peers and the community.

Parallel upskilling of teachers, family members and community members will be provided to assist the outcomes of this project.

Rigorous objective evaluations will be provided throughout the project with regular feedback to all stakeholders, so ownership of the proposed gains will be shared by all.

This project is about providing the building blocks for these children to have real aspirations for their futures, through generational change in life’s uncertain journey.

Unacceptable behaviour and disengagement in some of our most disadvantaged communities is growing exponentially. There is a desperate need for an early intervention/prevention program for these children, their families and communities if they are to have a positive future.
