On Friday 26 October 2012, UWA Fogarty Foundation Scholar David Sherwood was named WA’s 2013 Rhodes Scholar, at a ceremony at Government House.

David is one of nine outstanding Australians who have been offered a Rhodes Scholarship to complete postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford. David will study Politics, Philosophy and Economics.

In addition to completing his Bachelor of Science (Advanced) at The University of Western Australia through the UWA Fogarty Foundation Regional Scholarship, in 2011 David also co-founded Teach Learn Grow, a not-for-profit organisation that sends university students to regional primary schools to boost literacy and numeracy. Teach Learn Grow has also been supported by the Fogarty Foundation.

In 2012, David was also elected President of the Fogarty Scholars’ Association, who this year have established a range of new initiatives, including their own Fogarty Futures scholarships for high school students from regional Western Australia.

David is the second UWA Fogarty Foundation Scholar to be awarded a Rhodes Scholarship.
