Generation AI: Youth Ambassador Opportunity
About Generation AI:
Generation AI is an initiative led by the Fogarty Foundation focused on making sure young people play a real role in shaping how AI is used in education. We’re not just asking young people what they think, we want them in the room, helping shape what happens next.
The Fogarty Foundation is looking for a small group of passionate young people to help to run youth consultations, unpack how AI is actually showing up in schools right now, and explore what the future of AI in education could look like. These insights will inform real conversations with educators and decision-makers and will play a role in shaping the future of AI in education.
This is a voluntary engagement, however, Youth Ambassadors will be paid an honorarium of up to $1100 for their time and contribution to the project.
The Role:
Youth Ambassadors won’t just be sharing their opinions, they will be active contributors who will help to run consultations with young people. The information we gain from those consultations will be published in an Insights Paper and will inform conversations with educators, policymakers, and sector leaders about AI's role in education.
As a Youth Ambassador, you will:
- Work with a small group of peers to explore how AI is showing up in schools
- Co-facilitate structured conversations with young people in your community
- Identify key themes, patterns, and gaps from what young people are telling you
- Help develop clear positions on what needs to change
- Contribute to public-facing content (e.g. articles, video, or audio)
- Participate in a roundtable with educators, policymakers, and sector leaders
You’ll be supported throughout with training in facilitation, communication, and turning ideas into something that lands. We’re looking for people who are ready to show up and genuinely engage.
What You’ll Get Out of Being a Youth Ambassador:
- Real facilitation experience: you’ll learn how to run conversations that draw out honest, useful insights.
- The chance to contribute to real work and policy about AI in education as your insights will feed into a published paper and policy conversations.
- Exposure to people working in education, policy, and AI, including a roundtable with AI experts and leaders from industry.
- An honorarium payment. Your lived experience is valuable, and your contribution to this project matters. Young people should be recognised for the time, insight, and perspective they bring to work like this. You will receive an honorarium payment of up to $1100 to acknowledge your contribution as a Youth Ambassador.
Who We’re Looking For:
You don’t need a technical background or to be an AI expert. What matters is that you’re curious, thoughtful, and willing to engage seriously with the work.
We’re looking for young people who:
- Are genuinely interested in how AI is affecting young people and education;
- Can form their own views and contribute to discussions about AI;
- Have ideas about which groups or communities of young people should be consulted on the role of AI in education. Ideally, you also have a connection to one of these groups of young people that we can engage with (e.g. through a school group, sporting team, club, online or community group);
- Are available for at least 4 out of 5 of the key dates and can commit to the full program.
Eligibility: You are aged 15-25 based in Western Australia, and ideally have links to a community of young people that we can consult with.
Time Commitment and Key Dates
Key dates:
- Workshop 1: Tuesday 26 May 5-7pm (in person at Forrest Hall at UWA)
- Workshop 2: Tuesday 2 June 5-7pm (in person at Forrest Hall at UWA)
- Workshop 3: Monday 22 June 4-6pm (online)

Online attendance options can be arranged for ambassadors who live in regional or remote Western Australia.
How to Apply:
Complete the short application form and tell us:
- A bit about yourself: who you are, your age, and your interest in AI in education;
- Why you want to be a Youth Ambassador;
- Which groups or communities of young people you think should be consulted about the role of AI in education.
As a part of your application, you will need to film and send us a link to a short selfie-style video about why you want to be an ambassador (no more than 2 minutes).
Applications close 5pm Friday 15 May 2026. The Fogarty Foundation reserves the right to close applications prior to the 15 May 2026 if a large volume of applications is received. We encourage applicants to submit their application as soon as they are ready.
