Welcoming New Trustees in 2026
We are proud to welcome three new members to the Fogarty Foundation board of trustees in 2026. Across science, finance, business, and emerging leadership, they bring a breadth of expertise that reflects the Foundation's belief that great outcomes for Western Australia require many sectors of knowledge working in concert.
Professor Peter Klinken AC is one of Western Australia's most distinguished scientists. Inducted into the Western Australian Science Hall of Fame in 2025, he served as Chief Scientist of Western Australia for eleven years, shaping science policy and advocacy across the state with rare depth and commitment. A biochemist by training, his research career spanned red blood cell formation, leukaemia, and cancer genetics, and he has led some of the state's most important research institutions, including the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research and Royal Perth Hospital. Appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2017, he is a Fellow of both the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences and the Australian Academy of Technological Science and Engineering, and was named Emeritus Professor at the University of Western Australia in 2025.
We were fortunate to have Peter deliver the keynote at our annual event in February, EDUCATED, where he spoke with the clarity and conviction that has defined his public career. His belief that education is one of the cornerstones of modern society is at the core of what the Fogarty Foundation does.
"We face a moment in time when we can stand by and watch a slow, inexorable decline in educational standards, or we can stand up and really do something about it."

Beyond the laboratory, Peter's interests span the energy transition and Indigenous culture, areas where his counsel will be especially valuable as the Foundation looks to the future. We are delighted to have him join the board.
Phil Dolan brings a distinctive blend of financial expertise, academic leadership, and entrepreneurial spirit. He has served as Dean of the Business School at the University of Western Australia and as Professor and Executive Director of the Institute for the Future of Business at the University of Melbourne, and before entering academia spent over a decade in investment management at Macquarie Bank. Today he is an active angel investor with a particular focus on female-founded startups and education ventures. He holds a PhD in Finance from Stanford University alongside degrees in Mathematics, Information Technology, and Business, and is a Senior Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Phil's combination of practical market experience and long institutional perspective will bring important rigour and range to the trustee meetings.
We also welcome Matthew Vinci as our Resident Scholar Trustee for 2026. Matt is President of the Fogarty Scholars Association, where he has worked to build a connected Scholar community grounded in friendship and peer support. He also leads 180 Degrees Consulting WA, the world's largest student-run consultancy, delivering pro bono strategic advice to charities and not-for-profits across the state. A co-convenor of the 2024 Fogarty Futures Leadership Conference and recipient of the 2024 Jeremy Cheang Award, Matt is currently studying finance and economics with an Assured Pathway to the Juris Doctor. His presence on the board ensures that the youth voice remains central to the Foundation's thinking.
We look forward to their guidance, their challenge, and their contribution as we continue our work in 2026 and beyond.
