November 5, 2024

We’re thrilled to share the remarkable achievements of UWA Fogarty Alumni Anish Badgeri, Racheline Tantular, and Jason Lu, who have recently earned some of the most esteemed scholarships awarded to Australian students. Anish and Racheline have been recognised with Sir John Monash Scholarships, while Jason has been awarded a Rhodes Scholarship—honours that underscore their passion, dedication, and potential to make a meaningful impact.

The Sir John Monash Scholarship celebrates individuals with exceptional leadership qualities, academic excellence, and a commitment to positive change. Anish Badgeri is the recipient of the inaugural Geoff Gallop John Monash Scholar, awarded to recipients whose fields of study will benefit Western Australia’s goals for resilience, equity, and sustainability. Racheline Tantular was awarded the 2025 Zelman Cowen John Monash Scholarship, named in honor of Sir Zelman Cowen, 19th Governor General of Australia a and a lawyer and Scholar. Both Anish and Racheline exemplify these qualities, each bringing their own unique vision and drive to their work. This recognition will open new opportunities for them to continue growing as leaders and to further their contributions on a broader scale.

Similarly, Jason Lu’s Rhodes Scholarship is a testament to his academic achievements and dedication to serving society. His studies at the University of Oxford will allow him to deepen his expertise and broaden his impact—qualities that embody the spirit of the Rhodes community.

”It is deeply humbling to receive the inaugural Geoff Gallop John Monash Scholarship. Geoff Gallop and General Sir John Monash are both highly esteemed Australian leaders, and it is a privilege to be awarded a Scholarship in their name. I’m intending to use my Scholarship to study at the world-leading University College London Institute of Education in 2025 to learn about effective models and strategies for attracting, and retaining, our brightest and most diverse minds in our classrooms. Upon returning to Western Australia, I want to make an impact in the not-for-profit and policy spheres by supporting and mentoring young and diverse early career teachers and advocating for better public perceptions towards the profession.” Anish Badgeri

Their achievements remind us of the power of dedication and vision. Each of them has the potential to make a meaningful impact in their chosen fields, and their journeys ahead promise to enrich not only their own lives but also the communities they aim to serve.
